IMPLANTS

What is an implant?

A dental implant is a treatment method in which screws made of titanium are placed in place of lost teeth and a prosthetic tooth is attached.

How is the implant placed?

*Evaluation and planning: In the first examination, oral hygiene and the amount of bone in the edentulous area are evaluated for implant placement. Imaging techniques such as X-rays and/or tomography are used. The diameter and length of the implant is decided.

*Implant placement: Under local anesthesia, the slots where the implant will be placed are opened. After the implants are placed in these slots, the area is closed with sutures. After 1 week, the stitches are removed and control is provided.

* Healing period: After the implant is placed, the process of the implant merging with the bone is expected. During this process, the implant is securely attached to the bone. The healing process may vary depending on the individual in whom the implant is placed, it can usually take several months.

*Temporary restoration: A temporary prosthesis or bridge can be fitted to temporarily cover the missing tooth while the implant is healing.

*Permanent restoration: After the healing of the implant is complete, the prosthetic tooth or bridge is placed on the implant.

What are the advantages of implant applications?

*Toothless patients can get rid of their removable prostheses called removable prostheses and switch to fixed prostheses thanks to implants.

*Even if a removable prosthesis is made again after implant treatment, the new prosthesis can be designed in a way that is less bulky, robust, provides comfortable speech and facilitates chewing.

*In single tooth deficiencies or in cases where there are neighboring teeth in the tooth extraction area, tooth deficiencies can be completed with implant treatment without damaging the neighboring teeth. There is no need to cut the neighboring teeth as in the bridge process.

When will my teeth be placed on my implants after implant treatment?

*In some patients, porcelain veneers can be placed on them immediately after the implant is applied. This method is generally preferred for patients living abroad. Special implants are used for this procedure.

*If the procedure is applied to increase the amount of bone in the bone area where the implant will be placed, it is necessary to wait 6 months before the implant is inserted.

In general, after a waiting period of 3 months in the upper jaw and 2 months in the lower jaw, the construction of porcelain teeth attached to the implants begins. The time may vary according to the person and the procedure.

Which ages are suitable for implant treatment?

Implant treatment can be performed for individuals whose growth development has been completed. In patients in the advanced age group, it can be applied at any age if the general health status and bone amount are appropriate.

Is implant treatment harmful to health?

Implants are made of titanium. Titanium is a material that can stay in the body for a long time and is well tolerated.

What is the lifespan of implants?

*The lifespan of implants is like your own teeth. With good oral care, they stay in your mouth for many years without any problems.

*Tobacco use is known to shorten the life of implants. In addition, diseases that affect the general health status such as uncontrolled high blood sugar affect the life of implants.

The use of good brand implants with improved surface properties increases the life of the implant.

*The experience of the surgeon during implant placement increases the life of the implant.
